Adding a new student - ID Number
Is there a way to tell SM the next student ID number? We already have a range of ID numbers in use (up to about 1550) but there are lots of gaps in the range. We don't really want to issue people with new numbers, so we'd like to start with, say, number 2000. Then we'll know that all 2xxx numbers are issued in SM, and anything else is issued in the previous software. Thanks :D

The Student ID number is the Index number created by the database addition. You can edit the Student ID number to a number not currently in use. What I do is create a new student record then scroll down the list of Student IDs to find the last entry then I edit to the next number.

This would be a useful feature. Although I do use the same method discribed above (scrolling to the last number and then manually changing the new/next one). I have to do this regardless as we have a prefix before the numbers in our student IDs. An option to set the Student ID number Prefix and Starting Number would be great. Kind of like is done with Invoice numbers.

The beta version at www.cabinsoftware.com/Beta27.htm has the feature added. It will select the next number for a new student. The logic goes to the last Student ID Number, looks for the first sequence of numbers in it, increments it by +1, then adds any letters previously used before and/or after the number. The Student ID number is then verified to not be in use by either the current or inactive database. If so, it continues to increment until a unique ID is found. Hopefully, this works for everyone.
